1. Your water looks cloudy.
Picture this: You have just had a good, hard workout, and all you want is a glass of crisp, clean water. You go and pour yourself a tall glass, but something’s wrong: your water looks more cloudy than clear.
Tap water that’s been properly treated should always look crystal-clear. If your water looks “milky” when it comes out of your tap, don’t use it. Instead, set it aside for a couple of minutes to see if the cloudiness goes away.
If the water doesn’t clear up within a few minutes,it could mean that there are too many minerals in your water. In other words, you could have a case of hard water and might want to invest in some water softeners to protect your pipes from buildup.
2. Your water tastes funny.
If your tap water tastes metallic or dirty, don’t drink the rest of your glass. A metallic taste could indicate the presence of certain minerals or contaminants in the water.
One possible culprit is high levels of iron, which can leak into your water from rusty pipes or well water. Another factor to consider is the presence of dissolved minerals such as zinc or manganese.
The minerals themselves may be safe in small doses, but it’s still important to have your water’s mineral levels tested to ensure its safety for you and your family.
3. Your water is bubbly.
If your water has bubbles and a shiny, multicolored sheen across the surface, stop drinking it and schedule an appointment with a plumber as soon as possible. This is a clear sign of contamination that requires immediate attention and action.
4. Your water smells bad.
Well-treated tap water should never have a bad odor. If it does, then it probably means there is something in your water that doesn’t belong there, such as sewage, mold in your city’s water supply, or sulfur (sulfur makes your water smell like rotten eggs).
